Who Was Vaslav Nijinsky? (courtesy of National Ballet of Canada)

Known as “Le Dieu de la Danse”, Vaslav Nijinsky was the first male dancer to achieve fame the world over. A ground-breaking dancer and choreographer known for his erotic magnetism and gravity-defying leaps, he both thrilled and shocked audiences. The impact of his too-short career changed the art of ballet forever. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in his prime, he gave his last performance in 1917 at the age of 28 and spent the rest of his life in and out of sanatoriums.
